Schutzhund is a competitive dog sport designed to test dog’s tracking, obedience and protection skills. Training is similar to that used in police work. Although the training regimen was specifically designed for and thus dominated by German Shepherds, and closely related breed Belgian Malinois, other protection breeds such as Dobermann, Boxer, and Rottweiler also find joy and success in this sport.

Schutzhund is intended to demonstrate the dog’s intelligence and utility. Competitions, or in the field better known as trials, measure dog’s courage, mental stability, endurance, strong bond to handler, scent, willingness to work, and trainability. Due to the extensive and unique set of characteristics required by the dog to be successful in this sport, not every dog is suitable. Therefore, a thorough evaluation of dog’s predisposition is strongly recommended before commencing the training processes in order to avoid any disappointments (please refer to evaluation tab for pricing).
